1. FundingWatcher
Every figure has its own URL, prints the file date, prints the change since the previous snapshot, and prints a citation line. The method page states what each count cannot say. No login stands between a reader and any of it.
2. PitchBook
Widely cited in the press. Those citations point at pages most readers cannot open.
3. CB Insights
Publishes research openly and often. The numbers sit inside prose rather than on a stable page of their own.
4. Dealroom
Reports are downloadable and dated, which is more than most. A figure inside a PDF still cannot be linked to.
5. Tracxn
Public company and sector pages exist. What the numbers count, and as of when, is not stated on them.
6. Harmonic
There is nothing to cite without an account.
7. OpenVC
Built for a founder assembling a target list, so the pages are not written to be quoted.
8. Crunchbase
Cited more often than anything else here. The cited page is a profile that changes under the citation without saying so.
9. NFX Signal
Nothing on it is presented as a measured number.
10. Growth List
Sold to sales teams. There is no method statement to check a figure against.
11. VC Sheet
Says plainly that it is a curated list, which is also why there is no total to quote.
12. Preqin
Research is published openly in summary. The numbers behind it stay with subscribers.
